Kay Sanders
CEO of CITI Limited
My predecessor, Christopher Worsley talked about the formation of the company over 40 years ago and shared our rich history; from being Cranfield Information Technology to producing and delivering the masters in project management, gaining university status, the high points of doing great work with clients, the low points following the financial crisis in the 2010s, and the decision to look for a successor.
I am grateful for the trust and belief Christopher had in me in 2019, by allowing me to “adopt his baby” as he put it. I know that with the great team we have, our collective passion and drive to retain the values and IP will remain, yet we are modernising, introducing and developing people, creating new ideas, and investing in leading technology to futureproof CITI and CITI Virtual Learning (CVL).

Change and the modern PMO
We took the subject of “Change and the modern PMO” as a base, having the expertise of our esteemed colleague Louise Worsley, a well-respected judge for the Global PMO alliance over the past eight years and author of ‘Stakeholder-led Project Management: Changing the Way We Manage Projects’. It was interesting to hear about delivering value, understanding the client voice and being adaptive.
Biggest challenges in change and project delivery
When asking the audience about the biggest challenges in their change and project delivery world, it was clear that communication, capability development and experience featured highly, as did stakeholder engagement and scope creep. There seems to be so much change whereby external forces are influencing or impacting on decisions.
The engagement throughout the day was electric, not just because National Grid shared their infrastructure PMO experience with us but the representation from different industry sectors, institutions and groups felt we managed to have well rounded conversation throughout the day. It was heartening to know that although it was our 50th CofEe Club, it continues to be relevant, thought provoking, challenging and insightful for people to want to attend.
Next steps...
To continue these successfully into the future, we are looking for client organisations who might like to host the 51st CofEe Club later this year or into next year. We are also thinking about future titles and what might be something you’d like to discuss, so please join in the chat on our CofEe Club forum on LinkedIn or contact us directly.
Thank you again for your ongoing support and interest in these events and please ensure you provide feedback and suggestions on future titles.
How can we help?
Project delivery can be complex, a project leader must demonstrate skills that enable them to influence, engage, challenge, analyse and deliver.
Taking a business partnership approach whereby the PMO or equivalent will be relationship building, understanding project problems, become internal experts and partners in project delivery who not only support and guide the wider project community, but also enable the development of skills and talent, provide a consultative approach, coach, mentor, enable people to make decisions raising confidence and building a successful community of practice, profession or centre of excellence.
Speak to CITI Limited about the PMO and change management, understanding change leadership and resilience within the delivery community, business partnering, portfolio profiling and prioritisation, assessing complexity, capability assessments, problem solving and decision making.
