Because Projects Are Delivered by People, Not Processes
Projects rarely fail because the methodology was wrong. More often, they struggle because people are unclear on priorities, stakeholders are disengaged, communication breaks down, or teams fail to work effectively together. Whilst processes and tools are important, it is people who ultimately determine whether change succeeds.
CITI’s Project Success Through People masterclass helps project professionals understand the human side of project delivery. Using our practical Beyond Method® approach, participants learn how leadership, communication, collaboration, stakeholder engagement and team dynamics contribute to successful outcomes. The course focuses on helping people develop the skills needed to influence, motivate and work effectively with others in complex project environments.
Beyond Method is learning constructed using our own best practice created from our inception as a specialist university institute in 1983; fusing the expertise of Cranfield University with the interests of six major users of change management: British Aerospace, British Gas, British Petroleum, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and Longman.
A significant amount of research and investment was made into Cranfield Information Technology Institute (shortened to CITI in 1988) to take change professionals beyond methodologies – and learn how to successfully implement change!
Successful projects require more than plans, schedules and governance structures. They require people who understand how to engage stakeholders, build trust, navigate different perspectives and create environments where individuals can contribute effectively. Understanding these human factors is often the difference between successful delivery and project frustration.
This engaging masterclass explores the role people play in project success and why technical competence alone is not enough. Participants examine how behaviour, communication, relationships, leadership and organisational culture influence project outcomes, gaining practical insights into how they can strengthen project performance through more effective engagement and collaboration.
The programme explores the human aspects of project delivery, including stakeholder engagement, communication, influence, team dynamics, leadership behaviours and collaborative working. Participants learn how to identify and address common people-related challenges that can affect project success, whilst developing practical approaches for building commitment, trust and productive working relationships.
Topics include understanding stakeholder needs, managing expectations, influencing without authority, team development, communication strategies, conflict resolution, sponsorship, leadership behaviours and fostering a positive project culture. Through real-world scenarios and practical exercises, participants learn how to apply these concepts within their own projects and organisational environments.
At CITI, we believe that successful risk management is not about maintaining a perfect risk register. It is about developing the judgement, awareness and decision-making capability needed to respond effectively in uncertain environments. Our Beyond Method® philosophy focuses on helping individuals understand the thinking behind risk management rather than simply teaching a process.
Through facilitated discussion, collaborative workshops, practical exercises and proven CITI thinking tools, participants explore how risk affects people, projects and organisations. Learners examine real examples, challenge assumptions and develop practical approaches that can be applied immediately. The result is greater confidence in managing uncertainty, making informed decisions and improving organisational resilience.
