Managing Multi-Threaded Programmes

Overview

Bring clarity, control, and confidence to complex programme delivery

When multiple projects, stakeholders, and priorities collide, delivery becomes exponentially more complex. The Managing Multi‑Threaded Programmes course is designed to help experienced professionals bring structure, alignment, and control to programme environments where multiple workstreams must move forward together—without losing sight of outcomes.

Built on CITI’s Beyond Method® approach, this course equips you to manage interdependencies, navigate complexity, and deliver coordinated change that creates real value.

This Managing Multi‑Threaded Programmes course focuses on the reality of modern delivery—where success is rarely achieved through a single project, but through the coordination of multiple interconnected initiatives. You will explore how to manage complexity across a programme landscape, ensuring that individual project outputs align to a coherent set of strategic outcomes.

Taking you Beyond Method

Beyond Method is learning constructed using our own best practice created from our inception as a specialist university institute in 1983; fusing the expertise of Cranfield University with the interests of six major users of change management: British Aerospace, British Gas, British Petroleum, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and Longman.

A significant amount of research and investment was made into Cranfield Information Technology Institute (shortened to CITI in 1988) to take change professionals beyond methodologies – and learn how to successfully implement change!

Course content

The course helps you move beyond managing projects in isolation and instead develop the capability to oversee multiple delivery threads, balance competing priorities, and maintain control in environments where uncertainty, change, and interdependency are constant. The emphasis is on building clarity—so that even in complex environments, direction and decision-making remain strong.

The course explores how to structure, govern, and manage programmes made up of multiple interdependent projects. You will examine how to align workstreams to strategic objectives, manage dependencies across teams, and ensure that risks and issues are understood at the programme level—not just within individual projects.

Key areas include integrating planning and delivery, coordinating stakeholders across organisational boundaries, managing conflicting priorities, and maintaining visibility of progress and performance. You will develop an understanding of how to bring consistency to programme delivery while retaining the flexibility needed to respond to change. The content is grounded in real-world scenarios, helping you translate theory into practical, actionable approaches for managing complex delivery environments.

Learning approach

This Managing Multi‑Threaded Programmes course is delivered using CITI’s Beyond Method® approach, focusing on building real capability for complex, dynamic environments. Rather than relying on a single framework, we draw on proven practices across project, programme, and change disciplines—adapting them to suit the context in which you operate.

Learning is highly interactive and experience-led. Through facilitated discussions, practical exercises, and scenario-based learning, you will explore how complex programmes behave in reality—and how to respond effectively. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own challenges, test new ideas, and develop practical strategies that can be applied immediately.

The result is greater confidence, stronger judgement, and the ability to manage multi‑threaded programmes with clarity, coordination, and control—regardless of complexity.
