Build confidence, clarity, and capability from day one
If you’re new to project environments or want to strengthen your understanding of how projects really work, this Introduction to Project Management course provides the foundations you need to contribute with confidence. Designed using CITI’s Beyond Method® approach, the course goes beyond theory to help you understand not just the language of projects—but how to apply it effectively in real-world situations.
Beyond Method is learning constructed using our own best practice created from our inception as a specialist university institute in 1983; fusing the expertise of Cranfield University with the interests of six major users of change management: British Aerospace, British Gas, British Petroleum, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and Longman.
A significant amount of research and investment was made into Cranfield Information Technology Institute (shortened to CITI in 1988) to take change professionals beyond methodologies – and learn how to successfully implement change!
This Introduction to Project Management course provides a practical and engaging introduction to the key principles, terminology, and behaviours required to work effectively in project environments. You will explore how projects differ from business-as-usual activities, why structured approaches are important, and how projects contribute to delivering change and value within organisations. The focus is on building clarity—helping you understand the purpose of projects and how your role fits into successful delivery.
The course also highlights the realities of project environments, where uncertainty, change, and competing priorities are common. Rather than presenting project management as a rigid process, it introduces it as a flexible, decision-driven discipline that supports teams in achieving defined outcomes.
This Introduction to Project Management course is delivered using CITI’s Beyond Method® approach, which focuses on building real-world capability rather than simply teaching processes. We combine practical knowledge with experience-led learning to ensure you can apply what you’ve learned immediately in your own role.
Through interactive discussions, exercises, and shared scenarios, you will explore how project management works in different contexts and learn from both theory and experience. The course encourages participants to reflect on their own environments, making the learning relevant, engaging, and immediately useful. This hands-on approach ensures that you leave not just understanding project management—but able to contribute effectively to it.
