Presenting is one of the most visible and influential activities undertaken by project professionals. Whether explaining complex information, reporting progress, influencing decisions, securing investment, or communicating change, presentations play a critical role in shaping stakeholder understanding and confidence. This course helps participants move beyond simply delivering information and focuses on creating meaningful communication that captures attention, influences thinking, and drives action.
Participants will explore the key ingredients of effective presentations, including audience analysis, message design, storytelling, confidence, structure, visual communication, and delivery techniques. The programme examines how to adapt presentations for different stakeholder groups, ensuring messages are clear, relevant, and aligned to audience needs and expectations.
Drawing on CITI’s Beyond Method® philosophy, the course recognises that successful presentations are not about slides alone. They are about creating understanding, building trust, establishing credibility, and helping people make sense of information in ways that support project outcomes. Participants develop practical skills that improve both their personal impact and their ability to communicate effectively within complex project environments.
Beyond Method is learning constructed using our own best practice created from our inception as a specialist university institute in 1983; fusing the expertise of Cranfield University with the interests of six major users of change management: British Aerospace, British Gas, British Petroleum, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and Longman.
A significant amount of research and investment was made into Cranfield Information Technology Institute (shortened to CITI in 1988) to take change professionals beyond methodologies – and learn how to successfully implement change!
The programme begins by exploring the foundations of effective communication and presentation design. Participants learn how to define clear objectives, understand audience requirements, structure messages logically, and develop presentation content that is engaging, relevant, and memorable. The course examines common presentation challenges and provides practical techniques to increase confidence and effectiveness.
Participants develop their delivery skills through practical exercises covering verbal communication, body language, presence, audience engagement, visual aids, questioning techniques, and managing nerves. The programme also explores how to present technical and complex information in ways that are accessible, persuasive, and meaningful to a variety of audiences, from delivery teams to senior executives.
Additional topics include influencing through presentations, handling difficult questions, presenting project updates, communicating risks and issues, facilitating discussions, virtual presentation skills, executive briefings, and making recommendations with confidence. Throughout the course, participants receive feedback and coaching to support immediate improvement and workplace application.
CITI’s Beyond Method® philosophy recognises that effective project delivery depends upon communication as much as methodology. Great project professionals do not simply present information; they create understanding, enable decision-making, and build stakeholder confidence. The programme therefore focuses on developing communication capability alongside presentation technique.
Learning is highly interactive and experiential, with participants actively developing and delivering presentations throughout the course. Facilitated discussions, practical exercises, individual coaching, peer feedback, and presentation practice allow delegates to build confidence in a supportive environment while working on realistic project scenarios and business challenges.
Rather than teaching a rigid presentation formula, the course helps participants develop a flexible approach that can be adapted to different audiences, situations, and organisational contexts. Delegates leave with practical tools, enhanced confidence, greater self-awareness, and a stronger ability to communicate ideas, influence stakeholders, and create impact through successful presentations.
