Typically delivered as a one or two-day workshop, either virtually or face-to-face, with optional coaching, practical application activities, and continued development through the CITI Beyond Method.
Leadership has become one of the most critical capabilities for change professionals. In today’s environment of continuous transformation, Change Managers are increasingly expected to lead without formal authority, influence across organisational boundaries, and help people navigate uncertainty, resistance, and competing priorities. Technical knowledge alone is rarely enough to create lasting change.
The Leadership Skills for Change Managers course focuses on developing the behaviours, mindset, and practical leadership techniques required to lead successful change initiatives. Participants explore how leadership influences engagement, adoption, organisational culture, and long-term sustainability, while building greater confidence in their own ability to guide individuals and teams through change. Themes of change leadership, line leadership support, sponsor engagement and psychological safety are central to successful change outcomes.
The programme recognises that effective change leadership is not confined to senior executives. Change Managers often act as trusted advisors, facilitators, connectors, and catalysts who help organisations create the conditions for successful transformation. Delegates will strengthen their ability to influence, coach, challenge constructively, and build commitment across diverse stakeholder groups. Concepts such as change agents, leadership support, culture, capability building and sustaining change are well-established elements of successful change practice.
Beyond Method is learning constructed using our own best practice created from our inception as a specialist university institute in 1983; fusing the expertise of Cranfield University with the interests of six major users of change management: British Aerospace, British Gas, British Petroleum, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and Longman.
A significant amount of research and investment was made into Cranfield Information Technology Institute (shortened to CITI in 1988) to take change professionals beyond methodologies – and learn how to successfully implement change!
This course explores the leadership behaviours that enable successful organisational change. Participants examine how effective leaders create clarity, communicate purpose, build trust, manage resistance, and maintain momentum throughout the change journey. Particular attention is given to the role of sponsors, line leaders, change agents, and local leaders in creating successful change outcomes.
Delegates learn practical techniques for stakeholder influence, coaching conversations, conflict resolution, engagement planning, resilience building, psychological safety, and leadership communication. The course also examines how leadership styles impact organisational culture, team effectiveness, collaboration, and adoption, helping Change Managers understand how leadership can accelerate or hinder successful transformation.
Using practical scenarios, case studies, facilitated discussions, and reflective exercises, participants explore common leadership challenges faced during projects, programmes, and transformation initiatives. The course helps delegates develop practical strategies for leading through ambiguity, creating commitment, building credibility, and supporting long-term organisational capability development. Leadership capability, learning culture development, coaching cultures, and organisational change enablement are areas frequently associated with successful change interventions.
The Leadership Skills for Change Managers course is delivered using the CITI Beyond Method, an outcome-focused approach designed to move beyond theoretical leadership models and build genuine capability that can be applied immediately within the workplace. Rather than focusing solely on leadership frameworks, the Beyond Method helps participants understand how leadership creates value, supports adoption, and enables sustainable organisational change.
Through interactive workshops, facilitated discussion, practical simulations, self-assessment activities, coaching exercises, and real-world case studies, participants connect leadership concepts directly to their own organisational challenges. The learning experience is highly practical, encouraging delegates to apply techniques to live change initiatives and stakeholder situations.
The CITI Beyond Method places equal emphasis on leadership capability, organisational outcomes, behavioural change, and sustainable results. Participants leave with greater confidence, stronger influencing skills, a deeper understanding of change leadership, and a personalised leadership action plan that supports both their professional development and the successful delivery of change initiatives.
