Turn Strategic Intent into Measurable Results
Organisations invest in projects and programmes to create value, improve performance and deliver meaningful change. Yet many struggle to demonstrate whether the promised benefits have actually been achieved. The challenge is rarely the delivery of outputs – it is ensuring those outputs translate into lasting outcomes.
CITI’s Benefits Realisation Management masterclass helps organisations move beyond project completion and focus on delivering measurable business value. Using our practical Beyond Method® approach, participants learn how to identify, plan, manage and realise benefits throughout the change lifecycle, creating a stronger connection between investment decisions, delivery activities and organisational success.
Beyond Method is learning constructed using our own best practice created from our inception as a specialist university institute in 1983; fusing the expertise of Cranfield University with the interests of six major users of change management: British Aerospace, British Gas, British Petroleum, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and Longman.
A significant amount of research and investment was made into Cranfield Information Technology Institute (shortened to CITI in 1988) to take change professionals beyond methodologies – and learn how to successfully implement change!
Benefits do not appear automatically when a project finishes. They emerge when people adopt new ways of working, processes change, capabilities improve and strategic objectives are actively pursued. This engaging masterclass explores the principles, practices and behaviours that underpin successful benefits realisation and why many organisations struggle to achieve the outcomes they originally planned.
Participants learn how to move beyond viewing benefits as a reporting exercise and instead manage them as an integral part of project, programme and portfolio governance. The course examines how benefits should influence investment decisions, shape delivery priorities and provide a clear measure of success long after implementation has been completed.
The programme covers the complete benefits realisation lifecycle, including benefits identification, benefits mapping, ownership, profiling, planning, measurement and tracking. Participants explore how benefits link to organisational strategy, business cases, stakeholder expectations and change adoption, while developing practical approaches to managing benefits throughout delivery and into business-as-usual operations.
Topics include benefits governance, benefit dependency mapping, benefits realisation planning, performance measures, benefits reviews, common causes of benefits failure, and approaches for sustaining value over time. Through practical exercises and case studies, learners gain the confidence to apply benefits realisation techniques within their own organisational environment.
At CITI, we believe that successful benefits realisation requires more than following a process or completing a template. Our Beyond Method® philosophy focuses on developing the judgement, critical thinking and practical skills needed to understand how value is created, protected and sustained in complex organisational environments.
Through facilitated discussion, collaborative workshops, real-world case studies and proven CITI thinking tools, participants explore the challenges that prevent benefits from being realised and learn how to overcome them. Rather than focusing solely on methodology, we help learners understand the behaviours, decisions and governance practices that enable organisations to achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes from change.
